Summary:

Enrollments and fill rates have declined in the past two years. A new full-time person has been added to the staff, which should have a positive impact on enrollment. State skill standards for Architectural Technology are available and will be used to review the curriculum for currency. In addition, research will be conducted to verify the need to add CAD to beginning design classes.

5. Student Credit Hours

The one-year follow-up (Former Student Follow Up Survey) of 1999-2000 graduates shows that 75% had found related employment, which is benchmarked as good. Sixty percent of students reporting rated the learning experiences as good or excellent; this is below the benchmark.

6. Employer Satisfaction Surveys

Their employers rated graduates working within the field average to above average. Eighty percent responded that they would hire future BCC graduates.

7. Employment Market Analysis
Local demand for architectural graduates is very good currently. Demand is tied to the construction rate, which is booming in the Puget Sound area.

8. Curriculum Currency
The curriculum will be reviewed and revised based on the state skill standards. Learner outcomes, competencies, activities, and assessments will be identified and/or revised and mapped to the skill standards.

9. Advisory Committee
Additional members will be added to the Advisory Committee in 2000-01 to complement the skill standards focus and reflect the needs of small businesses. The committee meets quarterly and minutes are available.

C. Results from Optional Assessment Criteria

1. Program Costs and Institutional Support
The CAD lab was updated in 1999-00.

2. Retention and Advising
The number of declared majors has declined and retention has decreased. A strategy to recruit and retain more students is part of the action plan below.

3. Articulation
The Architectural Technology program has TechPrep agreements with four regional high schools. The number of students transferring in under these agreements has been small (four in 1999-00).

4. Curriculum and Course Delivery Methods
Program faculty continue to revise their teaching/learning approaches. The skill standards curriculum work is expected to stimulate change in assessment methods. Faculty has requested consulting in performance assessment methods.

5. Student Demographics
Eighty percent of the students in the program are male and 10% are students of color. Part of the recruitment plan will include increasing the number of females and people of color.

6. Student Readiness
Students’ ability to master some of the program courses continues to be a problem. As part of the action plan, the program chair will request English and math placement scores for declared majors.

7. Faculty Credentials and Professional Development
Maintaining the technical skills of program faculty is an ongoing challenge. Program faculty is working with the Division Chair to develop a plan to upgrade the skills of current full-time faculty.

8. Peer Programs
The only similar program in the area is at Sound Technical Institute. The demand for graduates exceeds the current capacity of both institutions.

9. Professional Affiliations
The program continues its affiliations with ________and ________; both of which provide useful curriculum input and national perspective.

80% of the AA graduates of the Architectural Technology Program will report employment in the field on the Former Student Follow Up Survey administered at the time of program completion
